Each one, teach one!

Max Dax interviews Jutta Koether

Jutta Koether, Rising, 2008, Galerie Daniel Buchholz

In the last event in the series of interviews with female HFBK Art Academy professors, Max Dax meets Jutta Koether, who was appointed Professor of Painting/Drawing in the winter semester 2010/2011. The two are no strangers, as they both worked for SPEX in Cologne and have even done interviews with one another before.

Koether, who refers to herself as a "multiple artistic personality", works as a painter, performance artist, musician and writer, aesthetically exploring her role as an artist with reference to elements of pop culture and images from the media and everyday life. How can such a broad range of themes and content be conveyed to students? And what effect does her own experience as a "late starter" in the profession have on how she teaches and on her view of teaching itself?
