Installation view

To answer the question: Can art be concrete? or which aesthetic practice in the everyday refers to art? Olaf Nicolai, in cooperation with Wilfried Kühn/Kühn Malvezzi, has developed a space for exhibitions, events and documentation on the first floor of the Kunstverein. Design and furniture relate to Max Bill’s work System mit fünf farbigen Zentren of 1970 and Nicolai’s own work Considering a multiplicity of appearances in light of a particular aspect of relevance. Or: Can art be concrete? (2007). The latter is an installation consisting of books and posters made from Iris printing procedures. During the Insert events will take place, which are being documented and afterwards re-inserted into the presentation. The formal design of the space functions as basis for discussion on which to ground questions of the social relevance of art as it appears in its means of composition as well as its educational components. How can political relevance of art be deduced from art itself?
