Michael Riedel spricht anlässlich des Buches „Meckert“ über seine Publikationen (1997-2009).

Parallel zu seinen Ausstellungen veröffentlicht Michael Riedel Bücher, Magazine, Poster und Postkarten. Angefangen bei der bedruckten Papiertüte, hat sich sein Interesse an Beschriftung über Independent Publishing zu Veröffentlichungen in namhaften Kunstbuchverlagen entwickelt und gipfelt in einer eigenen Artforum Reihe (Format: 26,6 cm x 26,6 cm).

„Meckert“ ist die jüngste Veröffentlichung dieser Reihe und nach drei Jahren die zweite Ausgabe: Catherine, Tuesday, Fiontan und Mieke sind vier neue Texte, die während seinen Ausstellungen in Cork, New York, London und Basel aufgenommen wurden. Bei den Gesprächen handelt es sich um Telefonate, in denen immer wieder die gegenwärtige Situation am Ausstellungsort beschrieben wird: „hello my name is Catherine and I’m calling from the Glucksman Gallery in Cork where Michael Riedel is having an exhibition this week he asked me to phone you and to let you know what’s going on ...“ (Catherine 448 min.), „hi Eileen um my name is Carolyn I’m calling from David Zwirner gallery in New York and I am actually calling on behalf of one of our artists who has a show opening on Tuesday his name is Michael Riedel and he asked me to call you amongst a lot of other people and give you a description of what I see ...“ (Tuesday 339 min.), „hello this is Fiontan calling from the Tate Modern I’m calling on behalf of Michael Riedel and he wanted me to ring to describe to you the installation of an exhibition he’s going to be in at the Tate do you have some times for that ...“ (Fiontan 427 min.).

In Basel, wo Riedel gar keine Ausstellung hat, beschreibt die Beschreibung keine Ausstellung, sondern sich selbst: I’m calling because Michael wanted me to describe what I see there’s no exhibition of his but I’ll describe what’s around me anyway so at the moment I’m in the storage area and right in front of me is a grey chair with metal legs and on top of it is a white Mac book with a computer program on it that’s recording everything I’m saying and it reads ...“ (Mieke 331 min.).
