Charley Harper was first student and later teacher at the Art Academy of Cincinnati (Ohio, USA), where he lived for more than 45 years and made his great number of screenprints, paintings, commercial art, wall paintings, posters and book illustrations. His enthusiasm for nature was present from the beginning, starting off with the first screenprints of birds he made in 1954 for the "Ford Times", the lifestyle magazine of Ford Motor Company, and the "Golden Book of Biology" in 1961 for which he made the illustrations. In December 2011 the Kunstverein presents selected works by Charley Harper at the Pavilion of Volksbühne Berlin.
