The Kunstverein in Hamburg was founded in 1817. On the occasion of its 200th anniversary, Christian Jankowski created an anniversary gift in 2017. In recognition of the close ties between the association and its members, the artist decided to invent an unprecedented sailor's knot. The result and gift to all members is the Jubilee Knot Edition - Chinese Hood Knot held by a double love knot.In cooperation with three former sailors - namely Heinz-Hinrich Meyer, Carsten von Holt and Uwe Hansen - a rocking, neat sailor's yarn was spun on a deep-sea cutter on the Elbe until the new knot was found. The enclosed edition poster contains instructions on how to tie the anniversary knot. Just like the processual relationships between art and the institution, Jankowski's artwork activates the members themselves: The tying of the knot - alone or in a group - lends a unique form to the mutual interweaving and dialogical energies 2000 times.
